Distracted Driving: Defenition
“Distracted driving” isn’t the actual name of a charge under the Highway Traffic Act, but it’s a common term used by motorists to the charges given for using a cellphone or any other hand-held communication device, entertainment device, or GPS while driving. For cellphones, in particular, this can include texting, talking, scrolling, or even just holding your phone.
Distracted driving charges apply whether you're moving or stopped at a red light or in traffic. Ontario has some of the strictest distracted driving laws in Canada.
